Effects of eating disorders when pregnant
Not following a strict diet when pregnant and in your forties can have hazardous effects on your fetus. The baby can be seriously affected from improper nutrition. Here are the most common effects of eating disorders on your unborn kid:
* Increased risk of low birth weight. Statistics have shown that mothers with eating disorders are up to 40% more likely to deliver a baby with less than normal weight.
* Developmental problems are also likely to occur. Liver disorders, lowered IQ, blindness and other abnormalities are not uncommon among babies born from mothers with eating disorders.
* Babies of malnourished moms are up to six times more likely to develop diabetes at some point in their lives.
* Spontaneous abortions are also common among pregnant women who don’t follow a proper diet plan.
These consequences are also common among moms who have already recovered from an eating disorder condition. As a matter of fact, a woman who has fully recovered for five or even six years will face the same pregnancy risks.
